IOANNINA SCIENCE FESTIVAL IS ONE OF THE LARGEST
SCIENCE AND INNOVATION PLATFORMS IN EPIRUS.
After the successful organization of the Athens Science Festival, the need arose for more local science festivals to be held outside the capital of Greece. The aim was to showcase the academic centers of the Greek territory and to acquaint the residents of each area with the events of the festival, without the need to travel. As a result, the Ioannina Science Festival (ISF) was created.
Both the natural environment and the rich history and research activity of the University of Ioannina make the existence of a local science festival in the “city of the Silversmiths”, Ioannina, an imperative need. As a pioneer in the introduction of Science Festivals in the digital age, the Ioannina Science Festival paved a new way of expanding the impact of communication and dissemination of science, through the organization of the first pan-Hellenic, Science Weekend, with the theme: “World Of Science”. Today, it continues with undiminished devotion and passion for science to captivate the attention of its audience!
The Ioannina Science Festival is organized by the educational organization “Science Communication – SciCo”, in collaboration with various academic, research, and educational institutes. The festival is conducted with the support of numerous Departments of the University of Ioannina.

Science Festivals have been organized in other cities of Greece after Athens (ASF), such as Patras (PSF), Larissa (THSF), Thessaloniki (TSF), Aegean (AegSF), and Cyprus (MSF), while in the near future other regions of Greece are expected to host their own special event.
